Cake decorating courses are offered at many local colleges as well as online - these courses will train you in the art of professional cooking and decorating techniques. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a professional certification or degree.

Join a training institution for cookery and then specialize in bakery. You will learn so many things about cooking different types of cakes and beautifying them to make them appealing and appear delicious and increase the appetite of your client(s) or guest(s).

You can learn on the job if you know somebody who is willing to let you apprentice at their shop and help them out around the store. They will teach you the fine art of cake decorating. There are no special schools, though education in art and drawing will be a plus.

There are two routes to becoming a cake decorator. First you can go to culinary school or you can work as an assistant in a professional cake shop.

Some places may train you on the job, but places like Michaels or other craft-type stores often offer cake decorating classes. Check around craft stores and party supply stores near you.
