Offer your support, but do not lecture them. Simply listen. Be a shoulder to cry on. Do not tell stories of your own experiences, since this seems to be an attempt to lessen their grief and rage.

Just be there for your friend. There is not much you can do or say to make your friend feel better. Of course let your friend know you are sorry.
