What are the must see and do things in New York city if you are going to be there for four days?

I am going to New York for the first time and while I would like to hit some of the tourist spots I would also like to see some of the local hot spots as well.

Visit the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. This beautiful church is the largest Gothic Church in the world surrounded by beautiful gardens. Entry if free. If you want a character filled meal in a very relaxed setting, hit the Dumpling House in Chinatown. The average meal is under $5 and you are able to watch the food preperations.

Central park is great to see, as are sites like the Empire State Building or 9-11 memorial. If you have time and budget permits, I'd recommend seeing a Broadway show.

Tourist spots include things like the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Times Square (where you can see a Broadway show), the Southstreet Seaport and shopping on Fifth Avenue or Canal Street. A great restaurant to try is Becco, on Restaurant Row.
