I have been offered a very good job in New York City, I would commute into the city three days a week from New Jersey.

In addition to paying Federal income tax, you would also pay New York State income tax, New York City income tax, and New Jersey income tax on what New York city/state didn't get in taxes.

You'll have to pay NYS and New York City together with your New Jersey tax for the money you make, NJ will give you credit for the taxes paid
