What are some safety tips for riding the New York City subway?

Mind pickpockets always have your belongings where you can somehow feel them, Try not to travel on your own at night time, if so stay in well lit areas and always ensure that you are with other passengers.

Do not ride the subway at night except in Manhattan. Most of the other NYC burrows do not have frequent trains active during non-peak hours, so avoid. I would not wear a lot of loose accessories and conceal all electronic equipment from plain eyesight. Ride the subway in the evenings and daytime, cab it at night.

First of all, don't stand too close to the edge of the platform while waiting for the train. Keep your handbag and/or briefcase close to the body. Don't make direct eye contact with the people around you. Exercise basic courtesy.
