The requirements depend on the state in which you live. Most states require at least a bachelor's degree and an early childhood education license. Some private schools may require a master's degree, but all schools will require state recognition and a certificate that proclaims your legal right to work within the school district in which you are applying.

Generally speaking you'll need a BS from a decent college and a Teaching Certificate. Many people also get a Master's degree in their preferred field.

To become a certified kindergarten teacher, you will need to obtain a teaching degree in elementary teaching at a college or university. Requirements vary by state. This is usually a 4 to 5 year program. You then need to complete a semester as a student teacher.

Teaching kindergarten at a public school usually requires at least a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field. To teach kindergarten at a day care, the requirements are usually lower - you can often get a job teaching with just an associate's degree.
