Check with your state, but public schools K-12 require a licence, a college degree (BA or higher), and to pass the Praxis standards exam. Private schools have their own requirements.
You must attend college and major in education in order to be eligible for student teaching. After that, you must meet the criteria of the specific school system/district.

This is incorrect. Many states, like Virginia, do no even offer a major in education. You need to get a licence, NOT a major. add a comment
To become an elementary school teacher you would need to have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. Early childhood applies to children from infancy to 8 years old.
