Is it okay for a short haired and long haired guinea pig to mate?

Cross-breeding in guinea pigs is only dangerous if you cross roans or dalmations, which can lead to blind/deaf babies with other deformities called "lethals". Breeding in general is VERY dangerous, however, with a 20% fatality rate to the mother and a high risk of babies dying as well. Please look into adopting from a rescue instead of breeding.

I don't know why that would be a problem. After all, in nature, nothing would prevent this from happening.
