The short answer is no. Yes Phone and Ethernet cables look similar but they are not compatible with each other. An Ethernet card and modem are entirely different and connecting the cords could damage some equipment if hooked up improperly. Basically there are three choices to solve the problem Buy: an external modem, get DSL service, OR get cable internet.

No, Ethernet ports cannot be used to connect to dial up. To connect to a dial up Internet provider, a phone cord must be run from the phone jack to the modem. Modern dial up modems are installed directly inside the computer and can be plugged into from the back.

Phone line usually us a RJ11 connector not the RJ45 used on Ethernet cable. The cable used is also different. Plus the phone line must go into a modem not a network interface card.

No, Ethernet ports have a different sized plug than a standard phone cord, and besides, that port does not connect to the dial-up modem needed. If you do not have a dial-up modem installed, try searching online for one, they're often found in inexpensive USB plug-and-play versions today.

No, they are two very different things. You need a phone modem to connect to a dial-up service. In any case, the phone line would plug in to an ethernet port.
