The original colonial ports were New York, New York, Boston, Massachusetts, Charleston, South Carolina and Providence, Rhode Island. Most of the ports were found in the northern colonies.

Colonial America thrived because of its ports. The Ports were an important asset to the business of living in the colonies. First and foremost the list of ports must include New York City, although for a while the city was called New Amsterdam. The rest of the list though not any less important includes Boston, Philadelphia, Charleston, Norfolk and Savannah
