Why was it called the "Battle of the Bulge?"

I thought that was something to do with weight loss.

The original Battle of the Bulge was given that name because when the Germans went on the offensive, their rapid penetration caused a bulge in the Allied lines of defense.

The battle initially named "Operation Watch on the Rhine".Got it's name partly to the facts. The Germans thought they could create a "Bulge" in the allied lines.
