Most likely, your fish has some sort of fungus or disease. The most common is Ich (pronounced "Ick"). You can go describe the appearance of the scales to someone at the pet store if you want, who should be able to point out a medicine that you can drop into the water.

Could be a number of things. Do the scales have texture, fuzzy, shiny, etc? Discolored? Black spots? If they're fuzzy it's possibly a bacteria or fungus. If it's losing color it could be scale rot. Hope that helps a little.

Its probably ick disease. They sell something as an additive for your water to cure the fish, and take the disease out of the water. Ick is deadly.
