It is never appropriate to spank a child. Spanking, especially when the adult is frustrated, sends a message to children that physical violence is an acceptable means to solve problems.

When you hit a child, you are teaching that child that violence is an appropriate way to deal with frustration. Study after study has proven that abused children tend to go on to commit crimes and abuse their own children at much higher rates than children who were not treated with violence. It is NEVER acceptable to strike a child.

Spanking is one of those discipline choices that should be made by parents and parents alone. It is a very personal decision.

Spanking a child is only appropraite if you believe it is, some do not. Always you an open hand and spank on the behind. Never use an object.
