What is the proper technique for hitting a baseball?

I am on a team for the first time and I am 25.

Start out by standing with your feet shoulder width apart. Keep a loose, comfortable grip on the bat. Imagine the pitcher's release point right above their throwing shoulder and wait as long as possible to swing so you get a good view of the ball. Always follow through.

I was taught that you must stand squared to the base. When holding the bat, your pivoting elbow should face the pitcher with your bat behind your head.

The most important thing is keeping your eye on the ball. Following that, step into it, and have a nice, fluid swing.
