The symbol, officially called a kanji, is 力 (pronounced chikara). Watch out not to confuse this with the kanji for sword which is 刀 (katana) or the "letters" か and カ (both pronounced ka) from the hiragana and katakana alphabets also in use in Japan. Another interesting kanji you might consider is 愛 (ai), the kanji for love.
