An mri gives a more thorough picture of the inside of part of your body by radio waves which are stronger than the earths waves. A ct scan is a computerized x-ray machine which gives several beams that are sent simultaneously at different angles. The beams that go through tissue are stronger and through bone are weaker.

MRI uses magnetic fields, and CT uses x-rays. CT scans are faster and cheaper and better for looking at bone. MRI scans give better pictures of soft tissue.

ct scan uses x-rays whereas mri uses magnets and radio waves. Without moving the patient, imaging plane can be changed with the help of MRI.

These are two completely different procedures. While both provide imaging of the inside of a body, they work in different ways. An MRI usually provides a lot more detail than at CT scan. On the other hand, a MRI is also much more expensive to have done. Both are very common tests, however.
