What is the cause of gas in the oil pan?

Weak oil. Needs oil change. If your fuel pump is mechanical it may be a ruptured diaphragm in the fuel pump. Worn oil rings.

If there is gas in the oil pan, most likely it is because of bad pistons and rings. If the piston rings are not properly sealing the piston in the cylinder, fuel will leak down connecting rods. The car will most likely smoke when it is running.

Well the only thing that I can think of that would cause gas in the oil pan is way too much fuel in the cylinder. Raw fuel is "washing down" the sides of the cylinders and drain down to the pan. Check you plugs and your air/fuel ratio to see if it is running rich or missing.
