Ensure you treat your wood with marine paint or varnish first to protect it from all types of weather. Measure the space where you would like your sign to be. You can choose to paint the sign, carve it or glue wooden decals onto it. It all depends on taste.

The usual materials that are needed to make wood signs are plywood sheets of at least 1/2-inch thick, picture-hanging hardware, stencils, paint, wood sealer. You can also use knotty pine instead of plywood if you want a smoother finish.

There are different types of wood signs but most will involve the use of transferring your design to the wood with a wood router. Access to a CNC router will make the process much simpler - you just input your design, clamp down the wood, insert the router bit, and the machine will take care of the rest!

Generally you take a good sized piece of wood and you use a Router to cut out the letters. You then sand down the sign and paint in the letters.

Making a wood sign involves cutting out the shape of a sign from a block or board of wood. Make sure it's the correct thickness, then paint or carve it.
