An iambic pentameter is a form of rhythm used in poetry and writing. It is quite common in renaissance and medieval poetry. It was used by such poets as Shakespeare, Chaucer and Milton. Iambic means there is one stressed syllable followed by an unstressed one. Pentameter means 5 beats per line.
