A sonnet is a specific type of poem, with fourteen lines of ten syllables each, and with a rhythm (or "meter") called iambic pentameter.

A sonnet has to have fourteen lines and depending on the style of sonnet it has to have syllables. but with a poem, you can write in free hand, make in rhyme, make it short or even long. Also the sonnet has to have a five foot iambic pentameter. is used in poetry that has an unrhymed line with five accents
