An alpha dog is the most dominant dog in his "pack. " Neutering often helps calm a dog down because they don't have all the testosterone coursing through their bodies.

My boxer is 10 years old and he is neutered, and I believe he killed my 3 year old un-neutered Corgi. Is this possible?  add a comment

An alpha dog is the leader of the pack, whether the pack is humans or other dogs. Alpha dogs may even attempt to discipline other dogs for their transgressions. The effect upon neutering depends on the age, breed, and sexual maturity of the dog when neutered. Neutering an older alpha dog will not have as much effect on its already ingrained personality.

An alpha dog usually describes the state of mind that an overly aggressive or dominant dog has. Usually these dogs want to take control of you or your house and may have destructive habits. Neutering allows their hormones to settle down and can make them much more manageable. Though do not consider it as a 100% fix.

An Alpha dog is basically the one dog that is the boss of all the other dogs. He's in charge in his little doggy world and will let the others know that. If you get him neutered he will calm down.
