Most people who have a serious viral condition like mono do not drink. Mono is hard on your liver. Drinking exacerbates that condition. A body that is fighting a serious condition like mono does not benefit from alcohol, not that a healthy body does.

Mononucleosis causes your liver to become inflamed and, when alcohol is consumed, it causes the inflammation to worsen. This inflammation can lead to extreme fatigue and in severe cases, damage to your liver.

Mono is a very serious viral infection that strains the entire body, especially the liver. Since the liver regards all alcohol as poison (it cannot be metabolized and is not broken down), the liver is further taxed. Most people who are seriously ill have no interest in consuming alcohol.
