A hernia means an organ is protruding out of the sac which normally contains it. An abdominoplasty will be done to reduce the hernia. A small incision will be made and any excessive tissue will be removed. An organ will then pushed back inside the abdominal cavity and a mesh will then be inserted to secure the organ.

Basically they need to cover the anatomical hole in the abdomen with a mesh and sew the mesh in so the hernia does not reform.

You will have an IV administered.Once you are under a general anesthetic, they will sterilize your abdomen and make a small abdominal incision. Then they will tuck your intestines back into place. Then they will insert a small durable mesh-like screen. The incision will then be sutured and you will wake up in the post-op area.

The biggest part is implanting a mesh that they suture your peritoneum too, to effectively close the structural hole in the abdominal wall.

The most important thing the surgeon is doing is creating a new continous abdominal wall with no defects in the peritoneum that the hernia could go back through. They typically accomplish this with a mesh screen.

Well, they have to open open the region but don't worry you will have to be put on anaesthetics, so you won't feel the pain.
