The dispatcher is the person who tells the truckers where they should be going or conveys pertinent information to them while they are driving. You need to be a strong, effective communicator and listener.

Truck dispatchers must be very organized. They must be able to schedule transports in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible. Dispatchers also need excellent communication skills. To be hired, you must have experience in the auto industry and a knowledge of Department of Transportation laws.

There are are local community colleges and trade schools in your area that offer classes which allow you to obtain a certificate in truck dispatching.

In order to be a truck dispatcher, I would need a map of the area where the trucks I am dispatching are going and I would need a CB radio so I could communicate with the truck drivers. I would also need a phone or computer so I know where I am dispatching the trucks to.
