Usually you have to have it drained. Many groomers and vets will do this at little or no charge. If it is still abcessed after they have been expressed try soaking or spraying salt water on it and that should help.

This is a very painful condition and you should seek veterinary treatment. The anal gland abcess can rupture and cause systemic infection. In the interim you can try using a warm moist compress to the area for fifteen minutes at a time several times a day. Do not try to put any topical medications on it as this could worsen the condition.

The best relief for your cats anal gland abcess is a trip to the Vets office. One cause of this abcess is the type of food you are feeding it. Hard food helps a cat produce the type of stool needed to keep this from happening to them.

These are not guaranteed to work, but you could try Tahebo (otherwise known as Pau De Arco) for the abcess. Another thing that would help reduce swelling would be to use antibiotic cream and peroxide. Hope all works out for your cat.
