Express the anal gland yourself by holding a paper towel and squeeze the anal gland while pushing inward and upwards until you smell the discharge. A groomer or a veterinarian can also do this for you. It is important to clean it out before it becomes a health problem.

Vet time! Expressing anal glands can be a very painful procedure and should be done by a trained professional only.

For clogged glands, you either have the vet drain them, or have the vet teach you how to drain the anal glands at home. It's gross, but cheaper than going to the vet.

Believe it or not, they make enemas for cats! Go to petco or petsmart or ask your vet. Not only will it clear out your pet's poop-hole but will also unclog the "anal glads".
