Simply lift the tail and press inwards at the base of the anus and be sure you are out of the way. Groomers will also do this for you.

This is something you'd need to get your vet to show you - it's messy, and you could cause problems if you do it incorrectly.

This is a nasty little job. First go to a well ventilated area. Put on safety glasses and where latex gloves. Hold dog so that you have full access to the glands. Gently squeeze swollen areas until discharge comes out. Glands should reduce shortly after. Good Luck

Expressing the anal glands can be done internally or externally. This is a medical procedure and should be done by a vet or a groomer. If expression is done incorrectly it may cause other problems. It's relatively inexpensive to have it done at a vet or groomer.
