Types of hernias include inguinal hernias (these hernias can be classified as direct or indirect), femoral hernias, umbilical hernias, and abdominal hernias. You can have hiatal hernias, which are protrusions of the stomach upward into the chest cavity.

Types of hernia are inguinal, femoral, umbilical, incisional, diaphragmatic, epigastric, hiatal, lumbar, maydl, obturator, pantaloon, paraesophageal, paraumbilical, perineal, properitoneal, sliding, sciatic, spigelian, velpeau, Richter's hernia, Littres' hernia and sports hernia.

Hernias can be classified by location: inguinal, umbilical, epigastric ,femoral, hiatus (stomach overpass diafragm)etc. Also there are incisional ones. Some are visible and other are intern and are almost invisible.
