Depends on what type of fishing your doing. In freshwater just starting use a closed-face reel; like a zebco-33. For fresh and salt use a spinning reel works good.
It depends on what type of fishing you're doing. If you're just fishing for smaller (pan) fish like crappie or blue gil I suggest a Shimano. Its great.
