What are the causes of gas in the oil of an engine?

There may be a stuck injector or carburetor malfunction that is causing too much gas into the cylinder which will unseat the piston rings and leak gas into the oil pan. If the engine is misfiring that could help cause this problem. Another possibility is that the piston rings could be damaged or worn out.

It is normal to have some gas in the oil. There is a ring around each piston. These rings do not from a perfect seal. Check these rings often.

Gas in the oil usually indicates burnt piston rings. Running low on oil, or having contaminates in oil can score your cylinder walls and cause this also. There are additives you can put in your oil to mitigate this, but nothing but a costly engine job will fix the problem.
