Make sure that you know what you are supposed to be speaking on. Choose three things you want to comment on and make sure that you get that done. To make your speech longer, add stories, jokes, etc. between the three important points. Make sure you close your speech strongly.

Focus on a subject and say what you mean. Organize yourself a little before you take the mike. Impromptu speeches unnerve everyone, don't panic, smile and carry on.
