Give a speech on something you enjoy - then it won't be as hard to come up with specific things to talk about. Speech ideas include cooking, traveling, how to (insert any number of things), scrapbooking, college drinking, underage drinking, parenting, etc. Having knowledge on the topic you are giving the speech on will give you more confidence as well.

Some interesting ideas for speeches are about museums, how to write a novel, world records, movies, reviewing a favorite holiday destination and previous Nobel Prize winners.

Good speech always depends on the way it has been presented. Any topic could be used like famous movies(harry potter or twilight movies), books(to kill a mocking bird) ,person from history(mother teresa,hitler) or present politians(obama,nelson mandela) or current problems(oil spill,environmental issues). As long as it is presented interestingly.

Some good class topics for speech class might include the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the phenomenon of Sarah Palin, Barack Obama's first year in office, global warming issues, the work of a famous author, scientist, doctor or lawyer, how to do something and how to best serve one's community.

You can discuss the effects of the current immigration problem on the U.S. economy. You can also discuss the effects of the two wars on the economy.

Some good topics to assign to your class would be to have each person do an important figure in the civil war, a president, an inventor, an author, try not to do something where there is not a lot of info.

Choose from topics you are very familiar with that you have some expertise in. The best speech class topic I ever had was, "How to groom a guinea pig."
