What are reasons not to display your car's vin number?

People may not want their vin number displayed because of the negative information someone can get who wants to buy the car. If the car is stolen and the car happens to be the same make and model and the plates are good,the thief won't want the vin to convict them.

Well the reason vin's are issued is so that every car can be differentiated from another. If someone won't give their vin they may have a stolen car or are trying to pass it off as something it isn't. Never buy a car without verifying the vin number is the original one that came on the car.

you should not display your vin numbers because you need those numbers to get it registered so someone else could use them instead of you

The car was stolen and the vin number has been removed or altered. At this point walk away and report it to the police department and anyone trying to sell you a vehicle without a Vin is not reputable anyway. It is illegal
