What are great exercises for toning legs and thighs?

I need better tone in my legs and thighs and have no idea where to start.

The absolute best exercise for toning legs would be to do squats and lunges around a running track. Another good idea would be to start running around a track for a few miles.

The best exercises are squats, lunges, calf raises, and leg lifts. You can do them anywhere with your own body weight. As you strengthen the muscles, you can add dumbbells in your hands or ankle weights to increase the resistance and build leaner, more toned muscles.

Squats and lunges increase muscle tone and can be done at home with no special equipment. Walking and bicycling also improve tone.
