Learn about the Valsalva manuever. Inhaling or exhaling during exercise protects your heart, brain, and keeps your blood pressure from sky-rocketing.

When weightlifting, it is safest to inhale to give the muscles oxygen then exhale to keep blood pressure at a reasonable level.

The idea is twofold: to provide more oxygen to your body when your muscles need it and to make more muscles work doing a move. Inhaling while your lowering weights during a bench press, and exhaling on the up move, will make the chest work harder. And an explosive exhale can help provide the push to complete a move.

When weightlifting you need to inhale through the nose and out through the mouth. You should take stead breaths. This technique should be used with all forms of exercise or sports. It is hard to do when your thinking about it, but it will be come more natural as time passes.
