Most cases of skin mites come from other infected animals, the groomer, kennel or breeder, or bedding. The best prevention is hygiene and not allowing your dog to be around strays or animals who are not properly cared for. Keep an eye on your dog and treat accordingly.

That is not necessary. There are lawn treatment products that will kill off a number of insects that can harm dogs. These insects include fleas, ticks, and mites. This product is sold at pet stores as well as Home Depot or Lowes.

Only if he already has skin mites and is revocering, do you need to take this precaution. Dogs should be allowed to play and romp in the grass otherwise.

I have found that so long as you have your pet protected by products such as frontline, mites will not be an issue. Plus it makes you life easier too.

Getting mites isn't a common thing. My dog had mites and my vet said he sees only 6 cases a year and we live in a city of 100,000 plus.
