Yes, the original X-box can play regular DVDs, but not blue-ray or high definition DVDs. The Xbox360 on the other hand can play high definition DVDs and regular format.

Yes, the xbox can play just about any dvd that you put in it. It is built with a dvd reader inside so it can play movies and xbox games.

The first Xbox Microsoft released is a DVD reader, and a proper DVD remote can be purchased to make navigation easier. The Xbox 360 is also a DVD reader and comes with the remote controller for easier navigation then using the game controller. The Xbox 360 is a HD reader and is far better for watching movies.
