Is it difficult to train a guard dog?

It depends on the breed of dog. Some dogs are just dispositioned toward that sort of behavior while others really cant be brought towards that. This really isnt a possibility if it isnt that sort of behaviour.

It is very time consuming and you need the right dog for the job. If its not in their nature they will be a loose canon. You need a certified trainer to get safe results.

Guard dog training can be accomplished by any good trainer who has the time and patience for teaching the dog the commands. The problem is that this training can never lapse and must be kept up for life with constant refresher courses so that you will always be able to stop the dog if it becomes aggressive.

No. Generally if you treat your dog very well and he becomes attached to your family he will become an excellent guard dog who is devoted to protecting his "Family".
