Yes Interceptor is the best thing you can give your dog to prevent heartworm. It is given once a month and most of the makers of intercepter have flavors added.

There are many heartworm medications available and they are all pretty effective. The only differences are name brands and generics and both should do the same job. Although they also have heartworm medication that also treat flea and ticks, which might be a better option for some.

We were actually told to use Heartgard on my dog when we thought that it was a possibility that she had heart worms. It's just a once a month pill that you put in the dog's food.

There are two main brands of heartworm medicine, Heartgard and Interceptor. Both work well but Heartgard should't be used for herding dogs. Interceptor has the added benefit of killing whipworms which Heartgard does not kill. Since it is a prescription drug, your vet will help you make the best choice.
