When an individual applies for a nursing license, there is a background check. Criminal arrests, charges and convictions are considered case-by-case. The individual may be asked to address particular circumstances and explain why consideration should be given. But there is no across-the-board denial for a criminal charge.

A charge is not a conviction. It is likely that a convicted person would lose an existing license, or have it suspended. Someone new to the field will have problems with the background check and have to go before the Board. Each case is board reviewed.

I doubt it. I don't the exact rules but I would think that a DUI has no influence on a nursing career. I've known nurses who gotten DUI's and I don't think anything bad happened to them. So no, I don't think they'll be denied.
