First of all, turn down the gain adjustment on your amp. If that does not resolve the problem, then you might have a bad connection with your cable.

Most electric guitarists want to know how to squeal! But if you don't want to squeal, check out if you are using a treble pick up or if you are touching strings with your thumb. Also, turn down the distortion and if you are using an overdrive pedal, you might consider not using it.
