I have a squealing sound in my car, however it no longer makes the sound when I apply the brakes.

It sounds like you have a loose brake pad that is scraping on the rotor. Try chacking your brake pads to make sure that the pad clips are still on.

This could be dust from worn disc pads. Try hosing the front wheels with a garden hose and see if the noise disappears.

If things goes on as it is you are not far away from accident. Squealing indicates that there's friction-related moving part on the wheel/brake assembly.
