The disease can last from 10-20 days. Diagnosis is made by seeing these symptoms and having a history of exposure. I have worked at a shelter and seen kennel cough alot I feel that it is contagious as long as the dog has symptoms. Yesterday my two dogs were diagnosed with kennel cough.

A dog is contagious with kennel cough for at least as long as he is still showing symptoms and until he is treated. The best way to prevent a dog getting kennel cough is to get them the vaccine that protects against it.

The dog should be isolated from other animals until he or she has been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours.

They are contagious for 3 months after they get over the kennel cough. Kennel cough can last anywhere between two to fourteen days. Though, there is a shot to try to prevent kennel cough now so if you plan on taking your dog to a kennel or anywhere else where there are a lot of dogs, get the shot.
