Psychiatrists must complete 4 years of undergraduate education majoring in Pre Medical education, 4 years of post graduate education in medical school, plus a normal doctor residency. Psychiatry is a specialty chosen after becoming a regular doctor. Total years of school is 8, but take into account the residency which is usually 2 years.

Psychiatrists are full doctors, so at minimum you will need to fulfill all of the requirements for medical school (2-4 years of undergraduate studies, plus 4 years of med school) plus residency requirements for psychiatry. Any additional specialization will require additional schooling.
