It depends if you want to be a technician or an actual doctor. An actual doctor who goes to medical school needs to first get a BA. Then they are required to go to medical school which is around seven years with the residency.

A person needs to start with 45 to 90 undergraduate credit hours. Taking a lot of classes in sciences are related courses. Also do work that is in the same field, help work with a vet ( maybe on a ranch, horse farm.) Main school anywhere from 9 to 12 years to become a board certified veterinarian.

To become a veterinarian in Canada you have to get a four year undergraduate degree in science followed by an additional four years at a specialized veterinary college.

Veterinary school is 4 years but you need a bachelor's degree before applying. Veterinary schools are also very competitive as there are only 28 in the United States alone. Each Veterinary school also has its own list of class requirements that should have been taken during college.
