How does a Holosight work?

If by "Holosight" you mean a holographic gun sight, those work through projecting several colored lasers into an LCD piece (or any other plastic lens). This is then encased in metal or plastic to protect the aiming reticle from damage. This is more efficient than normal iron sights, as it is less prone to environmental modification (i.e. bumped against/a surface)
