How do you use tap and die sets?

I need to learn to use tap and die sets.

To use a die to restore threads, you find the correct circle die from your set to fit the threaded item in question, and carefully turn the die onto the damaged threads, adding oil if necessary. If turning becomes difficult, back off and then continue. Same procedure for the tap, except that the tap goes inside the threaded item.

To use the tap: start in hole by turning clockwise 1/2 turn and back 1/4 turn, repeating process to length. The die is used the same way over a blank.

Taps are used to thread holes and dies are mainly used to thread bolts. These are used to repair threads with rust or paint, or to chase threads.
