Watch for limping or stilted movements by the dog. Does the dog exhibit signs of pain when manipulating the back, especially the lower back? These could be a ruptured disc.

You need to take your dog to a vet to get a diagnosis. The vet can feel the dog and might be able to tell from feeling all over it if it has a ruptured disc. The vet will also be able to take x-rays if needed to diagnose the ruptured disc.

I would take my dog to the vet. I would assume that it may be dragging a leg or whimpering with pain while trying to walk.
