Disconnect the battery first. It is located under the seat board, passenger side. Remove the eiring harness from it. Unbolt the 4 small bolts. Bolt and plug new one in.

The CPS on a jeep 4.0l is located on the left side of the bellhousing. There are 2 bolts that hold it on. They can be a pain to get to but from underneath and a long 1/4" extension it is possible.

Using a very long (3-4ft) extension on a ratchet with a swivel socket or a universal joint, reach in from under neath on the driver's side up to the high end of the transmission bell housing. Use a little grease in the socket to hold the new bolt for installation.

You're going to need a large adjustable wrench if you want to unbolt the CPS by yourself. It's better done by a machine in a professional shop, because if something goes wrong, things can get bad pretty fast. Loosen the four bolts holding the CPS and it should pop off.

The best thing to do is to make sure the crankshaft position sensor is getting power to it. You are going to need to make sure that you have the red battery cable off and then you are ready to unbolt the CPS. You just need to take out the 2 bolts holding it down and unplug the wire.
