How can I improve my skills as a softball catcher?

Practice. Find a willing friend to pitch, preferably a bad one who will throw pitches everywhere, and play catch with them. Practice your reflexes so you can throw out base-stealers. Practice catching fly balls. Practice strategy and get to know those you're pitching with.

Work on a quick glove to hand so you can release the ball faster. Also work on blocking the ball.
